What does Mainline do?

While Mainline originally focused on heroin and crack users, today it also focuses on drugs such as ketamine, GHB and crystal meth – and, for example, on the use of anabolic steroids. Mainline provides information and support to people who request it, trains professionals, identifies issues and conducts research. Mainline's outreach workers maintain contact with users throughout the country, never with fingers raised, always with helping hands outstretched.

Mainline operates in the Netherlands, in Eastern and Southern Africa and in Central and Southeast Asia. Drug users are incarcerated in many countries. They receive no care or help in the event of addiction and marginalisation. Mainline is globally active in changing the repression of drug users into an approach that benefits public health.

Why is Mainline commercially active?
Mainline's work is made possible by subsidies. At the moment the foundation is financially healthy, but subsidies are always on a project basis and therefore uncertain. By channelling part of Poppi's profits back to Mainline, the financing of projects for drug users will become more sustainable. In the long run, the museum will also be able to offer work to people with addictions. Poppi also contributes to making knowledge about drugs, addiction and drug policy accessible to a wider public.

Why is Mainline the ideal party to found Poppi:
Drugs Museum Amsterdam?

Mainline tells first-hand stories. About real people, about good and bad policy and about the latest scientific insights. Mainline is a team of 18 people, brimming with talent, energy and passion. With an annual turnover of 2 million euros, the organization has proved that it can run large projects. And that the foundation can monitor the content, integrity and social mission of Poppi. Mainline has a large international network of drug users, healthcare providers, academics, policy makers, politicians and journalists. In the Netherlands Mainline works with universities, addiction care institutions and organisations such as Trimbos, Jellinek and GGD. Internationally Mainline cooperates with organisations such as Transform, IDPC, Harm Reduction International and the Open Society Foundation. With thirty years of experience in the field, Mainline is uniquely qualified to tell the full story about drugs.
